LNG shipping stocks: Over 5% up

The UP World LNG Shipping Index, the world’s only stock index focused on LNG shipping companies, gained 5.17% last week. US stocks represented by the S&P 500 Index rose 2.28%.

LNG shipping stocks represented by their benchmark broke up several resistance levels, and the UP Index is close again to 100 points.
Investors in Golar LNG Limited (NASDAQ: GLNG) and Flex LNG Ltd. (NYSE: FLNG) were the most successful. Both companies gained two-digit gains: 12.9% and 10%.

New Fortress Energy (NASDAQ: NFE) was very close to a similar increase and missed only one-tenth of the dollar. Nearly 8% to its price added Awilco LNG ASA (OSE: ALNG). Russian PAO Sovcomflot (ME: FLOT) gained 5%.

Only two of Japanese trio growth. Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (TSE: 9101) and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (TSE: 9104) gained a similar 3.7%. On the other hand, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (TSE: 9107) lost 2.1%, nearly the most significant loss last week.

Only Dynagas LNG Partners (NYSE: DLNG) and Höegh LNG Partners (NYSE: HMLP) lost more: 3% resp. 2.5%.

Growth of rebalanced Indices

UP indices after the first regular rebalance grew by 79 points, the preferential stock index wrote down 6 points. English comment will be available on seeking Alpha. [Table ID = 3/] The Change in the balances of individual shares in UP indices is based on a change in market capitalization. Compared to the start of the index at the end of September 2018, there was a dramatic development especially with Dynagas LNG LP (DLNG) and the size of its representation no longer corresponded to the current state. The Predominating indices will take place every 3 months, always at the end of the quarter. [Table ID = 6/] The Index on this first adjustment of weights responded with a lighter growth, compared to the original scales the current value of UP TR of index 58.58 and Price UP index-160.68 point. [Visualizer id = "5139"] Virtually all shares Grew in addition to the Dynagas LNG LP (DLNG), for which a short-term ban was abolished. However, this stock did not close at the lowest price, which was 2.18 USD. On the Contrary, the most growing was the Höegh LNG LP (HMLP), which earned a profit of over 3%. Quiet times on the chart, except Dynagas

Over the past two weeks, LNG's ocean freight indices have lost less than 14 points. Apparently nothing happened. English comment will be available on seeking Alpha. [Table ID = 3/] The news of last week is without doubt a drastic reduction in quarterly DLNG distribution for Q4/18 from 0.25 USD to 0.0625, which occurred Friday night. The issue was addressed in a separate post yesterday. Let's say that the expected fall to 1.5 USD has not occurred, even though stocks lost 27% in huge volumes. Driver growth was HMLP in tow with GLOP, lost on the contrary GLNG. HMLP, this confirmed growth is technically made out of Downtrendu, and its growth can continue. First, let's look at a chart comparing the UP Total Return index with the ETF SPY. [Visualizer id = "4227"] We see on it that stock index dropped while SPY did not. In the complete chart we see another drop in the volume of trades. While the average value is 1852, the third week was only 698. However, the volume is not significantly smaller in any company. [Visualizer id = "3861"] We also attach a chart of preferential shares that slightly increased by the second week. This is obviously due to the fact that the course oscillates around the usual subscription value, which is usually $25. Lower, around 21, we can see not only the DLNG, but also the GLOP. Correction of growth or break in decline?

Although UP indexes have lost 31 points, optimism persists. English comment will be available on seeking Alpha. [Table ID = 3/] First, let's look at a chart comparing the UP Total Return index with the ETF SPY. [Visualizer id = "4227"] We see on it that stock index dropped while SPY did not. If remember that even a December slump was seen in our shares before, there is a reason for concern. But! The decline of last week is still to be taken as a correction of the previous rapid two-digit growth and that is good. Similarly, the dvouznačný signal gives us the following comparative graph. [Visualizer id = "3861"] It may be a smaller volume size, fortunately it was the beginning of the year and it may not mean anything. On the other hand, the sentiment of the market with the beginning of the resultant season is added–it seems that the December slumps are truly investors forgotten and go on! Volumes were below average mainly for GLOP and HMLP, on the contrary, above average in GMLP-another picture of insider sales is associated with this title: We also attach a chart of preferential shares that act in concert with the Equity UP index. The growth of the year began to forget December. UP indexes + 123 points. English comment will be available on seeking Alpha. Shares of UP-indexes started to grow during Christmas, as well as the rest of the market, even though media doznívaly declines in the best-known shares. The growth of last week gave a forget December decline and suddenly it seems that everything is fine-meant in the American economy. [Visualizer id = "3861"] It would be easy to stand up to the side of the "DNA has been achieved" or "This growth is a trap", but the UP indexes do not serve. Their aim is to compare the events of the various events in the maritime transport sector and the events in the sector with the overall market situation. Ad 1) It turns out that all stocks grew by more or less the same dollar increase. Which of course brought two-digit additions (DLNG, GLOP, GMLP, TGP). Ad 2) The maritime transport industry grew faster than the market as a whole, showing our second chart. Even though the sector is more volatile than SPY, in this case the optimism that stems from the growing LNG sector is rather at the site. But we are still technically in Downtrendu for our shares, and the correction should come after these growths. It is only a breach of the 1-2-3 strategy that can be taken as a technical input signal. Speculative can of course buy/open positions constantly, but it still holds that cash is king. By volume, the end of the year was mediocre, protruded titles such as DLNG, GLOP, GMLP, TGP-the same as those two-digit percentage increases. Grow At The End Of The Year

The end of the year brought growth of UP LNG shipping indices by 26.75 Point. Today we begin by looking at graphs comparing UP Total Return index and ETF SPY.

The charts show what we’ve been talking about for several weeks-the index shares are under pressure from the overall market situation. And so when the downturns became to a certain extent unsustainable and there was a growth adjustment, our stock was added. Volumes of course belowed the previous week, but that the Christmas was decent.

Growth was at least partially mitigated by the previous damage, but the values from at least the second December week were not achieved. A certain more pronounced correction is found only preferential shares.

Therefore, if we evaluate the past year, the growth of spot prices, the increase in the transported amount of LNG, the opening of new liquification facilities, or any further advances in the sector are reflected in the prices of shipping companies:

GLOG drop from 22 to 16.46
GLNG drop from 29.78 to 21.76
GMLP drop from 22.99 to 10.80

Big drop, huge volume

The past week can be characterized by two numbers up the UP LNG shipping indices: UP Total Return Index wrote off nearly 116 points and the UP volume index ascribed 4798 points. In other words: a big drop with a huge volume. Comment on the last Christmas week we start with a table, it is worth it.

The graphical view shows the values even better. The UP Total Return index got into the negative, the values are close to those of the years 2016 and the increase in volume is similar to that of December 2015, which heralded later growth.

There was no pre-Christmas reassuring, on the contrary. The downturns were even more pronounced. DLNG wrote down 17%, GLOP-14.6%, GLOG-13% and HMLP-10%. Volumes were the largest on 20th December and mostly (except HMLP) it was a squeeze in price increases, so the candle graph was formed by long wick.

But! Looking at the intraday charts, we will see something completely different:

iBoth graphs, volume at price and 30 min. Candle chart show that practically the whole volume was made after regular hours and it was probably a buyback. We can see similar events with GMLP and GLOP. Disclaimer: Intraday data come from my broker and actual purchases may have been even higher. But even so, the increase in the volume is still significant.

Volumes were the most prominent of all the above-mentioned titles, i.e. TGP, GMLP and GLOP, similar in height to GLNG with twice the weekly diameter and HMLP, which was practically threefold in volume. DLNG had an increased volume, but not as previous ones.

Interesting at the end
I have read discussions and articles on SeekingAlpha and documents published by DLNG in the SEC. I realized my flaps on my eyes, when I automatically assume the same amount of payments for the entire duration of the contract. In particular, the DLNG daily rates are rising:

2018: 57 142 USD
2019: 60 370 USD
2020: 62 795 USD

These are not significantly different amounts and may be affected by the start and end of contracts. But that we do not know how the internal rules of the contracts apply.

Race to the bottom

Years ago, on one Czech financial website, in a discussion on the article on Quantum analysis and its perspectives, a substantive remark appeared: “Just to not mean that they are studying oodles (quantum in Czech) of nonsense.” On author’s scorn to hot news we can remember these days, when one of the culprits of steep sales are called algorithmic business models.

In 50. week continued the decline of all shares included in UP LNG shipping indices, indices dropped by more than 73 points. In addition to the markets cursed DLNG lost mainly GLOP, GLOG, GLNG and HMLP. For GLNG, we must count on the dividend. Prices are starting to get to absurdly low level because the LNG market has begun to decline mostly already during this summer or sooner.

There was, of course, a break of the support/resist level, but it remains to be repeated that it is the weight of the moment and the negative situation on the whole market, to which the shares in downtrend react naturally more willing. Traded volume is also decreasing, for all titles except GLOG, GLOP and GMLP.

Let’s see if the week before the Christmas situation calm. But let’s not forget that prices are already starting to encourage interesting purchases.
